I've heard some horror stories about students doing an away rotation, and the other students who are there rotating screwing them over. Like one guy (who is now a fellow at Pitt) told me that when he was doing his 4th year away at a program, another rotating student told him that their resident said they could go home for the day. So he went home and it wasn't until the next day that he found out that the student stayed back and was in the OR.

I now this is pretty specific, but overall, did anyone have problems on their aways with other students?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There was a guy on one of my aways who was an obvious gunner and tried to screw everyone else over. At first it was really annoying, but the residents picked up on it pretty quick and needless to say, that guy did not have a good month. I think you'd be surprised to learn how easy that is for people to pick up on.

The bottom line is - work harder than everyone else, stay in good communication with your residents and be yourself. Everything will work out like it's supposed to.
