I would like to agree with one of my fellow posters that just because a program has not taken a woman in a long time does not mean they are not "female friendly".
For example, before I matched at Michigan State University-Kalamazoo there had not been a woman resident there in 17 years. I was fortunate to spend a month there as a medical student and found that all of the attendings and residents were excellent teachers, the opeative experience even starting out as a brand new two was amazing, and the community was congenial and professional. I was interested in a community program as well, and it is has turned out to be a great fit. I would definitely recommend Michigan State University-Kalamazoo program to any female applicant.
Also, my chairman is asking me all the time what he can do to bring in more female applicants, Kalamazoo is definitely actively searching for more women residents. If you have any questions about Kalamazoo or applying in general, please feel free to e-mail me at [url=mailto]
