I was thinking Emergency Medicine would be pretty helpful for things like suturing, looking at X rays, writing orders, etc. Diagnositic Radiology might be helpful as well.

For the people that have already done away rotations, what do you think?

You'll get all you need on your gen surg rotation. You aren't expected to know anything so don't try to wow them with knowledge. Just be cool and easy to get along with. And know your anatomy most of all.

the best rotation to do before an away would be an ortho rotation, like a 2 week rotation or your home program.

Yeah I agree. Do 2-4 weeks at your home program before you go away. I did MSK radiology and didn't feel like it helped me all that much.
