I was at the 11/17 Henry Ford Interview Day and wanted to post this for anyone else going to interview there. First, the day is really low stress so do not worry about the actual interviews. Not asked any "tough" questions at all. Probably the most difficult question was "Would you really come to Detroit?" This question or some variation was asked by almost every interviewer. Other than that it was just getting to know you type questions -- especially since the interviewers were being handed our folders as we walked into the room.

There were 5 15 -20 minute interviews, 4 with faculty and 1 with the 2 chief residents. One of the interviews consisted of "Hello. Do you have any questions for me........?" So be prepared with your questions, whether you already know the answers or not.

If you have the morning session you are in luck as you will be done around 1:00. However, if you drew the short straw and are in the afternoon session be prepared for a long day. You will spend the AM on a tour and then watching some sort of video on the program --really just a way to kill some time. One plus is that as you go on the tour, etc you may think of some questions or hear others ask some good questions that you can later use....

Overall the residents were great, I recommend going to the social the night before if you can make it. The residents were enthusiastic about their program and answered all questions and did not shy away from tough questions or try to sugarcoat flaws, etc. Henry Ford puts you up in a hotel that was pretty nice and about a 20 minute car ride to the actual hospital. I recommend renting a car, the cab fare from the airport is about 45$$ and then you need to get to the hospital, social, and back to the airport.

This post is already too long, if you have any direct questions send me a PM and I'll reply. Hope this post helps anyone headed there and good luck.

I'd echo the same sentiment. The place was pretty impressive -- a nice hotel, a nice hospital with a great computer system. A very low-key interview day, with lots of residents available for any questions. Really, they all just seemed interested in getting to know me, with basically no stress at all.

the general consensus was "Why Detroit?"

good luck.

How cool can a place be that chooses its residents by how fast they return an email invite to interview?
I dont know about you but I have better things to do that check my email every hour to see if one of these yahoo progams is going to pull that b.s.
