Did you guys hear about what happened to the Urology match? It sucks but it's funny to listen to them argue about it on this website--
I guess some of the best programs in Urology didn't fill their spots because of a computer mistake by the AUA(American Urology Association). They are going to re-run the Urology match by Friday.
It would totally suck if it happened to me so I have some sympathy but still...it's urology. Check out this website---

Good luck to everybody over the next 6 weeks and hopefully everybody gets to go exactly where they want to.

Wow. That totally blows. I just called one of my best friends who is a uro guy.

Apparently, they have to do the ENTIRE thing again, because all hell broke loose. some of the top programs in the nation didn't fill; folks who had arranged things w/ their top picks were accused of being liars when they ended up in other places; people who matched withdrew their apps from gen surg spots and are now up a creek.

so, it just goes to show that this whole process is just as absurd as we all know it to be. Even when we think we're done---we may not be. Comforting.

Keep your heads up. Enjoy the rest of the year, and know that while we will still be subject to this nonsense, we may be one of the last groups to be (if there is any justice, that is).

I think that the whole thing is an embarrassment to medicine in general. Imagine if you matched in ortho, only for them to tell you the next day that they screwed up, and then you find out that you actually didn't match. It's unbelievable that after all the time and effort that we put in as students, not to mention all the freakin money we spend and will have to pay back for the next 10-20yrs, that the AUA can't plug some numbers into a simple mathematical algorithm that a computer does for them. Serioulsy, what the hell could there be to screw up?!?!? All you do is put numbers into a computer and the match list is spit out for them. I myself am not a urology applicant, but my best friend is and it SUCKS to see someone go through that. He was one of the people who matched the first time around, and then didn't match the second time around. What a horrible, horrible thing to do to somebody. I hope a ton of students sue their asses off, because anyone who goes through that pain an embarrassment should be given something in return. I mean we are talking about a PROFESSIONAL society!!! You would think that the least the AUA could do for students applying and spending their money on urology apps is get the f***ing match correct. I just think it's a joke and a slap in the face to not only urology students, but to ALL medical students. Whether or not you match is not the issue, but to tell someone they matched and then say, "Oh, sorry. Hopkins and Cleveland Clinic didn't get who they wanted, so we are doing it again. Oh guess what, you really didn't match. Thanks for your money and have a nice day." What a joke.

One more thing, Boney don't be such an a**hole your whole life. You should have respect for all other fields of medicine. Imagine if someone you were very close to had to go through that. Obviously you are one of these people who thinks that because you are going into ortho it has validated your never ending quest to be somebody. I am sorry you were always picked last for sports. I am sorry that you sat on the end of the bench your whole life, assuming you even made the team. I am sorry that the only time you got laid was when you were 24 and took out a 16 year old girl and got her drunk. The fact is that you only have the balls to run your mouth on a forum where no one knows who you are, because I GUARANTEE that you wouldn't say that to my friends face because he would drag your a** up and down the street and give you the beating of your life.

yo dude, chill.
I'm not going to take anything you say personally. IF you read my post, I do empathize and feel terrible for those that didn't match. When i posted, it was at the time when people were saying that somebody was a liar and loser for saying that there was a mistake with the match. It was not in response to those that matched and then did not. I probably think that is the most ABSURD and shameful thing that I have seen at any point in this whole process that some people lost their position. Seriously though, at that time, it wasn't known that anybody that initially matched would not subsequently. My regards to your friend, I can only imagine at this time what they are feeling. If you look at every other post by me, I actually very much respect every other field. I am not one of those that debase anybody else intentionally. I never have and never will. So dude, before you assume anything and look like a total loser....think.

Trust me when I say that I know this situation is ridiculous and it is an embarrassment to the AUA.

I am just a dum orthopod wannabe w/ questionable math skills, but if it was program lists that weren't submitted, how come there weren't MORE spots available and LESS applicants who went unmatched in the second run of the match program???

There were more spots available and more people who matched the second time around. It was just bad luck that this guy's friend was one of the few people who matched the first time but not the second time.

But overall, there was a net increase in spots and people matching after the re-match.

This experience demonstrates, again, how irresponsible our organizations can be.

I mean, and the language is warranted, how f*ing hard is it to look at the computer printouts to figure out that Houston has a problem BEFORE match day. Applicants pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for these services and this is the kind of $hit we get in return. The few people who operate in this small world (residency match orgs) can devastate and/or change the life course of many, many human beings. Of course docs in the field may sympathize, but have no impetus to change things...future applicants have no power or knowledge....and currently screwed applicants can do what? Cry themselves to sleep. Horrible.

Recall the MCW ortho match incident from a few years ago. Some disasters appear to have been totally preventable if some human had simply been manning the computer before match day.

i think is was UW (madison) not MCoW but i could be wrong

nonetheless, the whole sytem is fubar, big time

i am pretty sure that the real match (not early) runs the algorithm hundreds of times, starting at different spots in the alphabet to ensure that the same result comes up. i hope this relaxes some of you out there.

having gone through with it myself, i thought i was gonna match last on my list; matched first. you never know.

besides, monday is the only day that matters. after monday, you know if you are going to be an orthopod. the only question is where.
