So i think i underestimated my potential a bit and even though i still have to hear from about 70% of the programs i applied to i already have 15 offers and 3 rejections.
What is a good reasonable number to stick too? I dont want to burn myself out!
Thanks

go to as many as you can possibly afford. i originally thought that i was going to weed out a bunch and not go on more than 12, but decided to go to every one that i could fit into my schedule. my year, that meant that i went on 20 interviews. interestingly, some of the programs that i would have weeded out ended up being ones that i really liked. it is a long wait between the end of january and match day. you don't want to be second guessing yourself about if you should have gone on more interviews.

i did the same thing - went on as many as i could afford (and schedule and stomach.) i went on 15 interviews (lots of schedule conflicts) out of 21 invites (i applied to 63 programs) and ranked 17 places (2 6-year programs.)

by the end of those 15 interviews i was burnt the helllll out, but let me tell you, when i matched, it was at somewhere i considered not interviewing and that i ended up loving.

do as many as you can afford and tolerate. nobody is a sure shot and the match can be a crapshoot.

best of luck!

Probably the most fun part of interviewing are the late ones at the places you are pretty sure you don't want to go to - the alcohol consumption and obligatory "night out with the residents" the night before the interview can lead to some pretty funny stories. go to as many interviews as you can

I agree you should go to as many as you can, but also try and make sure you are up for and prepared for each one. Last year I went on 20 interviews and answered the same question 600 times, so by the end when they asked "why ortho?" I was just blurting out robotic answers. Go to a bunch, but try to space them out if you can so you are not rolling on 2 hours sleep for weeks at a time.

I am a fourth year, so this is not hindsight, but I only plan on attending 12-15 interviews. I think any more will be a waste of time, money, etc... With that being said, I am trying to include several inteview at programs that are "back-ups," so I can minimize my chances of not matching. To each their own.

Have any of you heard of someone matching with only 5 or 6 interviews?
