Hey guys!

I'm a M3 about to start aways for ortho. I've basically grown up in the midwest and attended both undergrad and medical school in the midwest and same state (top 20 medical school, if that matters).

Assuming I'm a decent applicant (low 250s step 1, slightly above avg research probably) but non-stellar, am I going to be automatically screened out by East/West coast programs unless I do an away there? Even if I do, will it significantly impact the # of interviews I would get?

Please let me know because I was thinking of doing 1 in the west coast, 1 more in the Midwest, and debating whether to do the last 1 in the Midwest (at a big name such as Cleveland clinic vs. Mayo) or in the east coast to try and open up that geographic region.

Thank you!
