Hi!

I am currently an MS2. My fiance is a 6th year medical student in Germany finishing up his last year in December. He would like to apply for an orthopedics residency position in the US. We are well aware how competitive orthopedics is as well as how difficult it is for IMGs to match. That being said, it's been done before. Are there any IMG orthopedics residents who could give him some advice and guidance? He will be taking STEP 1 and 2 over summer 2018. Since he will already have graduated, can he set up away rotations or clinical interships at sites he is applying to?

If there are any online resources regarding these topics we have overlooked, please let us know.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

matching into ortho as an IMG is extremely difficult
he should strongly consider a research year in the US
if he is from germany, it wouldn't be a bad idea to reach out to german orthopaedic surgeons in the US who have research labs

He has too many variables for now, he needs to:
- Finish Step 1 with a +250 score and not do worse on his Step 2.
- Historically, IMG needed about 2-4 years of research after graduation to match, this research must be in the States.
