Day one finished. Already I'm so happy I chose orthopaedics. I was really debating between ortho and general surgery. In part because I was concerned that by going into ortho I would give up on being a "doctor" and being able to take care of really sick patients. Well, having started on general surgery, getting lost in the hospital and being yelled at for showing up 3 minutes late to rounds, getting yelled again for not knowing how to put in orders, I am thanking god that I chose ortho.

My first thought was, "Holy crap, these people are really toxic and unhappy." Meanwhile, I pass the ortho, neurosurg, plastics residents in the hallway and their smiling and Thankfully only 5 months of general surgery and from what I've heard the residents on my next two months are supposed to be much better.

Good luck to all the other new interns...we'll all get through this
