I remember hearing something about the hospital receiving an unfavorable rating from the ACGME. What does that mean?

I interviewed there a few weeks back. When I asked about the probation, the hospital had some violations which were sited in 2004. One such violation was going over the 80 hour work week for the speciality of OB/GYN. Apparently there is another site visit coming up in March 2007. For Ortho, I was told that there were no problems which were of concern however they were required to send a letter to interviewees notifiying of the previous problems for the hospital.

Again, I sure there are other individuals who may know more or less than me, but this is what I was told when I was there.

I'm currently a second year resident at Miami and every once in a while I scan orthogate to clear up confusion about our program or applying for residency in general. Tonight I'm on call and took the chance to see what new posts were up and found this current concern. Let me start by saying that "painkilla" has a good start. As he was saying the HOSPITAL was cited for violations that included work hours in different departments other than ours and patient transportation issues (ie. residents transporting patients to x-ray, the OR, CT, etc. because the ancillary staff was a little slow at doing it). The othopaedics department is not nor has it ever been on probation itself. In fact we have passed with full accreditation at each visit. As was mentioned the hospital is to undergo another site visit in March to assess changes. Those concerning patient transportation have, from my stand-point, been fixed as I have seen a significant improvement over the past year. As mentioned we are required to inform all applicants of the hospital's status when they apply. I can assure you that we run a very busy fully accredited orthopaedics program with lots of operative and hands-on experience (I've logged over 600 CPT codes to date only halfway through my 2nd year). I encourage anyone who has further questions about this matter or about our program in general to feel free to contact me. Good luck in the matching process.
