Both scheduled for 12/17. I'm probably going to wait and see if I get any interview close to these places for that same weekend and decide based on that, but if nothing changes, what do you guys think? Anyone with any insights into either of them?

I know this is a competitive game and its ever man/woman/child for his/her self. But I think its only fair people dont hoard interviews. It only makes it harder on use other lesser competitive people that are stressing because they may onl have 2-3 interiews.

I already have an interview on this day, so this is not self motivated. I just think this is so competitive that we should look out for others and not do this kind of stuff.

There have been a couple comments throughout the forum on this notion. I guess I am not buying the concept that people are holding onto interviews and twirling their mustaches as they do it. If you get an interview, you earned it. God forbid an applicant gets some time to decide where he/she wants to possibly spend the next 5 years of his/her life. Not to mention, the possibility that some applicants might have spouses or families that these decisions impact. I know that it is the idea of many people here that you should take an ortho residency anywhere you can get it, but for some that is not the best plan.

In some respects, everyone is trying to game the system (ie leaving dates open for desirable programs, taking a weekday interview when available, visiting regions at the same time). That being said, it is not really easy when you get an email offer and have to figure out when/how to coordinate on the spot. People are entitled to a little time.

With all that, I personally do not have multiple interviews on any day, and have expediently cancelled/declined interviews because I knew what I wanted.

It is a high-stress time for everyone. For each person holding a bunch of interviews on the same day, there are 10 applicants trying to figure out how in the hell they are going to get from Chicago to Akron or Pitt to Mayo in a day. We all, including myself, can exhibit some patience.

Gimme a break...just because I have two interviews scheduled on one day and am trying to decide which one I'm taking does not constitute "hoarding" anything, especially when the date is still a month away. I got the KU interview when Beaumont was already scheduled and didn't know which I'd want more. What I did know was that if I didn't get back to KU rapidly, I wouldn't get to decide. As HawkIrish said, I think I'm well within my rights to wait and think it over, see what other ones may or may not come, and decide then. It would be stupid of me to cancel Beaumont, for example, and then get one from, say, Kalamazoo for the next day.

I'd like to ask Mr. ForeverHard-On, what if the tables were turned? If you were given two for a day, wouldn't you like to hold on and see what unfolded for at least some amount of time before deciding? I'm sure your response will be that you'd be the noble diplomat of the masses and call around to ensure that the best person got your spot. But in reality, you'd probably do as I did, keep your options open, and maximize your chances to go on as many interviews as possible. And you can bet that I wouldn't bust you for it on this message board.

Bottom line is that I can't believe that I have to defend myself on this. For anyone out there holding a spot at a place I'd like to interview, I don't begrudge you at all for taking time to see how things unfold, regardless of whether you have 20 interview or none. You got the spot before me, so it's yours until you say otherwise. Furthermore, I resent the implication that I'm doing something disrespectful to fellow applicants. I made this post to gain information about either or these programs, which I would still love to get if anyone has any.

I plan on waiting till about the first of Dec. and if I haven't gotten another offer that is geographically close to these places, then I'll decide which one I like more and give up the other one. I think if I haven't heard by two weeks before the interview that there isn't going to be another one for that time, then it's time to give one up so someone else has at least two weeks to take it.
