Hello again, sorry for all these questions from a newbie

i was wondering if programs preferred a medicine or a surgery subi for the 4th year med student

i will definitely do a month elective in ortho and 1-2 AIs but still need to fulfill requirements and do either a gen surg or micu med subI

i have heard that programs don't care and micu subI teach more patient management, please let me know what you think

thanks

I've been told by a Yale Med student that the orthopaedic surgery program director believes the best predictor of good residents is his/her performance on a medicine sub-internship. This obviously doesn't apply to other programs and is second hand info, so take it with a grain of salt.

I was advised to take a med sub I, as we already generally have like 2-3 subIs in orthopaedics which are surgical anyways, it was felt that a med sub I could be more valuable. I'm taking it in march or so, and by then I expect all motivation to have evaporated...
