Are there any NS-LIJ residents on orthogate? I'm trying to decide where to rank the program and would be interested in PM'ing any current or former residents to discuss the program.

If available, please PM me or reply on this thread. Thank you.

I think you should rank it low - only because I'm probably going to rank it pretty high

Good thing that the list LIJ matters more than those that we submit. You should just assume you're ranked to match, then it doesn't matter where other people rank them

Has anyone heard the rumors about this program losing two interns this year? Can anyone in the program substantiate/refute (am hoping for the latter) this?

I for one loved the program when I interviewed there and could see no reason why anyone would ever leave such a great training opportunity. So this is definietely not an attempt to sabotage anyone's rank list.

Hey, My name is Mike and I'm a 4th year resident at North Shore-LIJ. Anyone who would like to is welcome to PM with me any questions.

In regards to our interns, as I spoke to some people about at the interview 2 of our interns are leaving as they no longer want to be surgeons. The first is a guy who decided as a 4th year student, but after the match, that radiology was the field for him. The second guy decided during his internship that he hated the OR. He hated the blood and the anatomy and didn't really like taking care of the patients. He is going into anesthesia. Both of these guys were ranked in our top 5 last year and we are sorry to lose them. They are great guys and are still my friends and I'm sure they will be very successful in their new fields.

This is an unusual situation for us as we have never had a resident leave out program before this. As anyone who has rotated with us in the last couple of years can tell you we are an extraordinarily close group and all really love what we do and we all really love the program.

Please feel free to ask any questions anyone would like. We do not want there to be any unanswered questions while people are finalizing their lists. Best of luck to all of you in the process

Mike
