Long time reader, first time poster. Getting ready to schedule away rotations and was curious about how many MS4 rotators are usually at the following places each month during August, September, October span. Thanks for any help! Also, if you are a resident at any of these places and wouldn't mind a PM with a couple questions from an MS3 let me know.

I was hoping to get similar information on certain programs in the southeast prior to scheduling away rotations. If anyone has information on away rotations at these institutions (numbers of rotators, where you spend your time, etc), the input would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to respond or PM. Thanks.

Campbell Clinic seems to have a revolving door of rotators... whereas other places at which I rotated/contacted had definite start dates for a rotation (i.e. 4-week blocks starting the first of the month or first Monday of the month), Campbell had new/different rotators starting and ending their 4-week blocks every week. I think there were as many as 6-8 at a time while I was there. Since they put you on a different service each week, this often meant that there were as many as 2-4 students on trauma at The Med, and 1 student per attending on other subspecialties... that is, the attendings that accepted students, of which there are quite a few (Beaty, Canale, Azar, Kelly, Cannon, Richardson, Jobe, Throckmorton, etc).

I'm not sure how many total rotators they have each year, overall.

Jefferson: usually has 8-10 during that time. Here you will do 2 weeks on either spine or joints and then 2 weeks on another specialty (foot/ankle, shoulder/elbow, sports, hand)

Penn: typically has 6-9 depending on the month. You may be able to choose which sub-specialty you want but you whatever you end up on, you will stay on that service for the duration of your visiting rotation. If you get a choice, I recommend trauma or peds because those offer the greatest "hands-on" opportunity and a chance to work with some big names/great letter writers.
