Ohio State to increase # of residents starting in 2006

If this just happened, then these two new spots may not be in the match for this year. Good question to ask. Did the news come soon enough to add these two positions into this years match? Or will these two positions fill outside the match?

Great news for OSU. I'm glad the ACGME has unleashed the clamps on orthopedic residencies and expanded a few programs in the last few years. There is still a shortage of orthopods in this country, especially in the MidWest.

The two additional PGY1 spots at OSU will be in the match for this year. We have already submitted the change through the NRMP and are awaiting final approval. As the quota change deadline for programs is not until January 31, we got our approval from the ACGME and made the change in plenty of time for this year's match. As of right now, the NRMP site says we have five positions in the five year program and one position in the six year program.

We have also received approval for the ACGME to increase to six PGY2 residents for the year beginning July 1, 2006. We already have one of those positions filled, but we will be filling the other position outside of the match.
