Recently our 6-yr Orthopaedic Residency Program was approved for an increase from 4 to 5 residents per year. In addition to increasing our match number from 4 to 5, we have also been approved to add to our R2 (research year) and R3 (PGY2) positions. Both positions (R2 and R3) were filled. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the R3 position has become available.

The requirements to apply for our open R3 position is are as follows: completion of essentially all of the orthopaedic surgery PGY1 requirements in a preliminary surgery or other ACGME approved program by June 30, 2011 and substantial prior (medical school or residency) experience in basic science or clinical research. Those lacking up to two months of the required PGY1 rotations are eligible to apply. Unfortunately, those lacking more than two months of the required PGY1 rotations cannot be considered. In addition, International Medical Graduates are not eligible for this position.

Those interested in this position are invited to contact me directly via e-mail and should include the following: USMLE step 1 and 2 scores, a current CV, and a list of PGY 1 rotations. If selected for interview we will need access to your current ERAS application.

Please note that your preliminary rotations may not satisfy the orthopaedic surgery PGY1 requirements, which are as follows:
a. a minimum of six months of structured education in monthly rotations of surgery to include multisystem trauma, plastic surgery/burn care, surgical intensive care, and vascular surgery;
b. a minimum of one month of structured education in at least three of the following: emergency medicine, medical/cardiac intensive care, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, rheumatology, anesthesiology, musculoskeletal imaging, and rehabilitation;
c. a maximum of three months of orthopaedic surgery;
d. pediatric surgery may be used for (a) or (b) but not both.
