Hey all,

I searched the forum and couldn't find a good thread answering this question. I have heard more programs are requiring step 2 to rank people. I'm asking because I did solid on step 1 (252) and my residency director said if he was me he wouldn't take step 2 until later in the year (I'm planning on doing it in January). Anyone else in this boat or should I just suck it up and take step 2 now (although my schedule is front loaded with my ortho sub I at home institution and away rotations). Thanks.

Most programs list if they require Step 2 or not on FREIDA.

I am a first year so I haven't gotten to that part yet, but I think most programs list if they require it or not.

Is there any way to get a list of these programs all at once, or do we need to click on them individually?

I have never found a way other than clicking on each program individually. I suppose we could start a google doc and start compiling them.

I don't know of a way, either. But I was just looking around by region this past week at this. Off the top of my head, I remember seeing Summa in Akron, OH as one of them.

As an example, look at the FREIDA page for Banner Good Samaritan in AZ (I can't do a direct link it seems, but you can find it easily enough).

Under the heading "general information" there's a table called "USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 requirements for interview consideration," and they list both Step 1 and Step 2 as requirements.

I have three questions about this as I think about my schedule:

1) To get an interview at Banner, you'd need to have your Step 2 score back before early November, when interview invites go out? IE you need to take the test sometime between September (late enough that it doesn't automatically go out with your ERAS on 9/15/13, but early enough that you can choose to release it to programs for interview consideration).

2) Have many of you heard that MOST programs don't even require a score to RANK you? IE you don't even have to have a score when rank order lists are finalized on 2/26/14?

3) Most advice I've gotten is to take Step 2 late enough in the year that it isn't part of consideration for interviews, but that I needed to take it early enough to have the score by the time programs were ranking their interviewees. Does anyone have any comment on this advice?

I was hoping someone could shed some more light on this if possible. I am trying to figure out if I can move my test date back to late January because it is interfering with interviews and the holidays (no chance I am studying on xmas). I am sure that this may vary between programs but has anyone gained any insight into whether specific programs require the step 2 ck score to make their rank list?

If I schedule my exam for the last week of January they may or may not get it back by 2/26/14 when rank lists are finalized.
