I know most people have a year of prelim surgery or research as a back up plan if they do not match. Since the point would be to establish yourself at a program that you would want to match into, my question is this...

Which ortho programs are at institutions that treat their prelims as equals to surgery/ortho interns in terms of experience and teaching?

Thanks for your time.

that's kind of a hard question, since it's most people don't research _that_ many prelims. i would figure out what programs you are interested in for ortho, then check out the gsurg/prelim situation at those schools.

that said, my home program (where i will be prelimming) is UT hsc-san antonio. our gsurg interns and categoricals are equal in teaching and opportunity. plus, we are given the chance to meet the reqs for application into a pgy2 ortho spot.

cheers.
