I'll be doing an away up at Columbia in September. Was wondering about the parking situation up there...I have a place to stay way down in the Lower East Side and will have access to a car. Is there a garage (either University or private) I could pay to park at for a month? Would rather take the hit of paying for parking for a month instead of having to pay rent...

I was wondering the same - Where is a good safe, yet relatively inexpensive, neighborhood to live when rotating at Columbia Presby? Esp one that does not require a car?

Thank you in advance

We have 9 visiting rotators this month and they are staying in every imanginable place it seems. Some are staying with siblings (nice if you have that opportunity of course!) while others are renting rooms in Bard Hall (1 block from Columbia). The only thing that I would be careful about is doing CraigsList since one of our students did this and it sounds like it might be a little bit sketchy.

For those of you not from NYC - the upper West side is a great place to stay and is easy to travel to the medical center without a car (the #1/9 subway takes you right to 168th street). The immediate area around the medical center (Bard Hall) is fine to stay and will definitely be more affordable if you don't have friends or family to help with housing.

Hope this helps --
