Hey all,

I am a 4th yr with a very late interest in ortho after a required rotation at my medical school. I had always liked surgery but did not expect to like ortho so much on my rotation. It was my intention to take a year off to pursue research in another field (didn't apply this year) but now I have been seriously considering doing that research in ortho. Conveniently I also have time to do a sub-I in ortho in the last couple of months of medical school. My grades are pretty good (mostly H's and HP's) and step 1 is great.

Anyway, are most research fellowships made available around matching time? Are most paid (do not care about the amount -- just enough to get by)?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm just wondering if I should start looking now. Thanks.
