Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Division of Orthopaedics, invites fourth year medical students or medical school graduates to apply for a one year paid research instructor position. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated individual looking to expand his/her knowledge of orthopaedics and to work closely with Orthopaedic Surgery faculty, the division chairman, residency program director, residents, and medical students on orthopaedic research projects covering total joint arthroplasty, pediatrics, sports medicine, trauma and spine. Moreover, since SIU SOM, Division of Orthopaedics collaborates with both national and international faculty, the research instructor has the ability to work with those who are well-known in the orthopaedic field in order to gain invaluable skills.
The Research Instructor will be responsible for providing clinical and translational research training; collecting and compiling research data for, and initiating and completing research reports and other manuscripts for publication to major scientific journals; leading the Orthopaedic Research Executive Committee monthly meetings; preparing abstracts and manuscripts for submission for presentation at scientific meetings and publication; and preparing and presenting posters, papers, and lectures at scientific meetings.
Over the past two academic years, the research instructors at SIU have been involved in over 30 research projects and have been actively involved in projects that were presented at the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Mid America Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopaedic Association, AO North America and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Publications by the research instructors during this time frame have been accepted to the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
Interested individuals should contact the current research coordinator, Brooke Robinson, ([email protected] or 217-545-1387) with any questions and/or to apply for the Research Instructor position for the 2012-2013 academic year.
