Job Description and Expectations
Position: Research Coordinator
Duration: 1 year
Salaried: A monthly stipend is provided.
Where: Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center, Spine Service. Chicago, IL
Who: Under the Direction of Dr. Kern Singh, Attending Spine Surgeon at Rush University Medical center
When: Beginning in June or early July, 2013
Duties of the research coordinator will include:
- Coordination of all research projects from study design to publication
- Submission of protocols to the IRB
- Implementing Dr. Singh's research ideas into projects
- Submission of Manuscripts to journals and conferences (Spine, The Spine Journal, JBJS, JAAOS and Orthopaedics)
- Developing posters/powerpoints for conference presentations
- Drafting and assisting in the writing of Book chapters
Specific Prerequisites and Characteristics of the coordinator should include:
- Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
- Proven interest in research
- MUST be extremely organized and detail oriented
- MUST be able to self manage
- Strong academic record
- Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills (statistics experience is a plus)

- The ability to collaborate with other spine attendings, orthopaedic residents, and spine surgical fellows (MD's) in a high-volume academic orthopaedic department
- Opportunities to observe surgical procedures (project permitting)
- Ample opportunities to attend Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, Spine Conferences, Journal Clubs, and Cadaver Labs
- Opportunities to present research at Local and National Orthopaedic/Spine Conferences
