For those who interviewed and/or are interested, we have learned since our interviews that we will have two new faculty members starting in May of this year. It is a husband and wife combo who will be doing hand and peds respectively. I think they will both be great additions to our program. We will now have three pediatric ortho attendings (one of the three will likely begin to curtail his practice over the next few years looking towards retirement, although I suspect he will still be involved in resident education regardless). The addition of a hand surgeon should be a boon for our program. We will get a greater exposure to hand and hand trauma (currently the plastics dept takes all of the hand call--we do our upper extremity rotations presently with two outstanding, fellowship trained community orthopods who are not in the hand call pool), yet I dont think it will add too much punishment to our call call schedule since the hand call pool is decently sized.
Good luck to everyone. Please feel free to pm me with any questions.
