Okay 6 months into intern year now it's time I bought my own copies of an ortho text. Having difficulty deciding.
Already have R&G Adult fx on CD but don't know whether I should go ahead and buy the text too, or buy the Skeletal Trauma text.
I know that I need a hard copy and since the New Skeletal Trauma series is out, thought that might be a good buy...
New editions are known for disappearing from our ortho library then reappearing when they are older/newer editions are published.
Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated.
Is R&G really the "Gold Standard" as one resident told me...
Is there regional preference... Seems like the East is pretty big on R&G.

There is no gold standard, it is whatever one is most recently released

I haven't read any of skeletal trauma, but I got R&G from a company rep (I'm a 'tern also) and I have found it to be great. I think it is pretty easy to read and has interesting historical stuff at the beginnings of chapters. If you are considering R&G, I wholeheartedly recommend it (the new edition, never read the older one).

Reps buy residents at our program a ton of books... Campbell's, R&G, Skeletal Trauma, etc. It all depends on your program and what other residents have received in the past. Zimmer reps buy lots of stuff... just ask them! By the way, just got back from a 6 day fracture course in Vail paid for by a rep. Not too shabby! ):)
