Look at page 84 of the NRMP Program Director survey:
From the chart, it appears that passing Step 2 is required just to receive an interview at about 62% of all programs.
I was planning on taking Step 2 in early October, but I am a bit concerned that it will come too late to receive some interviews. The debate about taking Step 2 always seems to be revolved around how good of a score you received on Step 1. From this data, however, shouldn't everyone take it early as 62% of programs require it just to give an interview? For those of you who took it late last year, did it appear to affect the number of interviews you received? Also, is early October STILL considered early to take CK? I will be taking orthopedic electives from June to August, and I would like to study during the month of September.
