Just writing to get some insight into the Texas Medical Center situation.
Can any CURRENT or RECENT med students, ortho residents or fellows tell me how, if at all, the "divorce" of Baylor and Methodist has affected training. I am currently looking at fellowships at both Baylor and the FOARR/Methodist and would like some FIRST HAND info. Pros/Cons...opinions.

PS- Great to see orthogate is still up and running strong. I've been an occasional browser/poster since my MS4 year (I'm now PGY4)

I'm only a second year at Baylor, so take my post with a grain of salt, but hopefully it will give you a little bit of info to work off of. The split is still in the process of being figured out, but from what I've heard, things have actually worked out better than most originally thought. The ortho surgeons that I've talked to have generally looked at it as a decision by higher powers that doesn't really affect the way they interact with the other surgeons, it has just made admin things a little more complicated.
I haven't specifically talked to residents much about the situation, but students have actually said they've felt their training has been better if anything, because they actually have some more options now.
No matter what, I wouldn't write the TMC off your list, because it's pretty incredible to be in an area that is as big as many downtowns but is completely devoted to medicine!
Good luck!
