Ladies and gents,

I am planning on doing 3 away rotations during my fourth year. I am currently in between 3rd and 4th doing a research year. My university allows students to do 3 away rotations but only 2 of them can be in the same specialty, i.e. only 2 ortho aways. This being said, what students have traditionally done is use the 3rd away as a "trauma" rotation and worked just with ortho trauma.

Does anyone else have a similar situation or have advice on how to go about planning this type of thing? I have already picked out the schools I will be applying to for my away rotations. I was thinking of doing the trauma one at Brown as it is a Level 1 trauma facility and sees a high volume from what I have been told.

At my school we have the same rule; however, I have been told that many times this can be worked around by doing an away in ortho shoulder, ortho peds, etc. You might go talk to student affairs and see if there is a loophole. around this. To my understanding my school allows students to get around this because of the fact that ortho is one of the most competitive specialties.
