So I'm really looking for some good things to add to my CV, and I was wondering how good tutoring your fellow medical students would look. Do orthopedic residencies really like this? How does it compare to research? I want to do it, but then again it is moderately time consuming and I'd hate to misdirect my energy into something that holds very little weight. Thanks guys.

P.S.- the tutoring is for our Pathology course.

Research > Tutoring

However, extracurriculars never hurt, especially if you get paid for the tutoring.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, deep down I kinda knew research looked better... unfortunately, my school doesn't have very many research opportunities, so I'm looking at other options.

Keep trying. Talk to some of the recent applicants. They will be able to tell you who will give you some research opportunities. In my experience, doctors love to have med students to help with their research, but some are more likely to give you a good project with a high likelihood of publication while others are not that nice and will give you something with only a small likelihood. Either way though, research is research and the publication is the topper.
