Hi All
I will be entering medical school in the fall at a rather expensive private institution. (My state schools did not pull through so I didn't have any other choice). I've been interested in orthopedics for as long as I have wanted to be a doctor. I've done ortho research for almost two years and will have several publications (not first author) as an MS1.
My question is how are applicants on U.S. military scholarships viewed when applying to residency positions, specifically ortho? I am debating joining a branch of the military to help pay for school but I want to get many outside opinions before going through with it.
If there is anyone reading this thread with knowledge of what a career in military medicine involves i.e. the medical school years, residency, and time spent in active duty, please post response.
If anyone has any sort of opinion please let me know! I know a career in orthopaedics in a long way away for me and there are many things that I still need to accomplish. However, I am optimistic that I'll get it done.
