I'm thinking of applying for aways at these 2 places and wanted to know if all their rotators get an interview? Are they given any preference in the match? If someone wasn't the strongest candidate, would it not even help to do an away at one of them (i.e., the program is just that competitive that even an away wouldn't help)? Also, I've read in past posts that Akron is female-friendly and not as numbers conscious, but what about UNC?

Speaking for Akron General, a rotation can be a plus. If you are willing to be treated like "one of the guys", you are welcome to do a rotation here at Akron General. A rotation can be a plus in that the residents are able to gauge if you "wear well" over your time here. We allow students the opportunity to scrub in on cases, see patients in the clinic, also take call. We want the rotators to see what our program is all about and hopefully consider us when the Match comes around. Dr. Leeson ( Program Director) does an "exit interview" at the end of your rotation and if your rotation is not during interview season, you are invited to come back for a formal interview day. Feel free to contact us if you need more infromation about our program.
