The U of U is a very strong program. Charles Saltzman (previously of Iowa) is our new chairman and very resident friendly. We have our own orthopaedic hospital (pictures on web site). We have no weak areas with regard to specialties. The fellows in hand, tumor, peds, joints, spine do not get in the way. Our trauma comes from the west (wyoming, nevada, utah) with rodeo and motocross as well as the ever present snow ski'd into tree during winter providing interesting and unique learning experiences. Utah is stereotyped based on the religious majority. The only way the mormon church affects the training is that sometimes sundays are quieter in the trauma bay.

Utah is beautiful with so many national parks within day trip distance and outdoor recreation beyond your ability to afford equipment. The residents
(not accidentally) are a very cohesive group who drink and party and hang out frequently. Utah may be a tough town for single guys (don't know about that) but if I were single I would not be hurting for top shelf selection compared to the midwest. Wendy's and McDonald's doesn't seem to have as much a grip on the female population here.

The program is strong and growing. We are adding attending staff in multiple specialties. We forecast the need for more than our current 5 per year residents soon.

Obviously can't say enough good about it.
