Hey,
Just curious what most people's impressions are of UTSW. I know it has a reputation for being trauma heavy and that the new chair is from WashU, but just wanted to know what people think in general.

If any residents are out there, how do UTSW residents do with fellowships? I know this topic has been discussed before but wanted any new input. Thanks.

This is truly a great program that is only going up. To summarize from my perspective as an applicant:

Pros- Great operative experience at Parkland, Front-loaded, sink-or-swim mentality, 2nd year is expected to handle floor, er consults, and get into the or. Trauma and peds are outstanding experiences. Residents are universally great guys and gals and really look out for each other.

Cons- One potential knock is that you never really get away from the trauma at Parkland. Great for operative experience, but you perhaps don't get a great immersion into sports, joints, etc. Hand and Sports are relative weaknesses, but improving.

I hope some residents will post and give a better, more accurate description of the program. At the end of the day it will be very high on my list.
