UVA is a great place!!!
Every discipline is represented, several with top notch docs with big time reps and pubs. Also they are great mentors who get to know you and have you to their homes for journal club. The residents get along and spend time together outside of the hospital. Over half are married. Call is q7 as a PGY2 and short or home call the rest of the way. There is incredible research going in the area of tissue engineering and other areas as well. If you are looking for an academic career you can apply to the academic track. It's a 6 year program with a year of dedicated research. That year is protected without call, plus the benefits of attending conferences. There is also the traditional 5 year program. Either way, almost every resident has some sort of research going. The resident educational program is great with daily lectures, no saturday conferences. Plus in the fall there is a major conference and in the spring there is a major speaker for graduation/chief week. Also there is a great OITE review before the exam.
Charlottesville is a great place to live. People are friendly. Great if you love the outdoors. Plenty to do around the univerisity with affordable housing. If you go for an inteview you can make upt your own mind, but doubt you will be disappointed. Good luck.
