Hello All,
So I am a non US intern applying for Ortho residency in my own country. Looking at the discussions and sample CVS i understand that requirements are different.
I need your opinion on the following:
In my country, if you are applying for Ortho, following is what you need to be a top applicant:
Medical school grades, GPA (higher the better)
Residency Entrance Exam score (Higher the better)
International Exams - USMLE, MRCS or others (Raises you up the short list)
Courses like ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills course
Research Experience - Publication, oral or poster presentations
Awards if any.
I am applying in November for the Residency entrance exam and then if I pass, il go on with application etc
So I have time to get all the above in my CV
I am registered for ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills course, MRCS, research...one after the other until the year ends.
My only problem that shakes my confidence is my medical school final GPA.
Coming from a new medical school, the curriculum was still under testing, we were the first batch the curriculum was tested on. So it was messy in medical school. Staying blind until a week before an exam.. lead me to not score so well. I worked like a robot but I was never exam oriented. But why would Ortho directors care about all this?
I am determined that Ortho is what I want and willing to sacrifice.
What is your opinion about the above situation?
