Hey everyone,
Don't get down... It still very early in the game. I was a re-applicant last year and one of the best things i did the second time around was to NOT READ EVERYONE'S POSTS on orthogate... People fall into the trap of comparing themselves to others and really that has no point. People getting a lot of interviews like to post because it makes them feel good in the present, and those that don't have very many feel like crap. In the end, its out of your control so other than cause a lot of angst or give you a false sense of security, it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR YOU. I know people who had 3 interviews and matched and those with 17 who didn't (from both years).
So, use the threads to motive you to increase your chances (i.e. find out if the programs you've applied to have made contact, and if you havn't heard yay or nay, contact the program coordinator to see if "your application is complete" if there's anything missing or anything else they require) instead of comparing yourself with others...
I guess what i'm saying is, i don't really agree with the starting of this thread, and i initially wasn't going to post my stats, but as a motivation factor i'm gonna post my stats from last year and the year before:
Med School
Pre-clinical: few H's in first year, none in 2nd
Clinical: got a P in every single rotation i did 3rd year, H's in all ortho AIs and 4th year rotations
Step 1: 219
Step 2: 205
Research: 1 podium, 1 poster, 1 published abstract --> all first author
AOA: obviously not...
2007-2008
Applications: 130
Interviews: 8 (1 rotated at)
2008-2009 -> Research year (10-12 manuscripts, 5 already published, the rest just about on the way)
Applications: 145
Interviews: 8 (3 rotated at - 1 from prev year, 2 from current, 1 off the wait list a week before the interview was scheduled)
Needless to say, i'm currently matched at an excellent program and am happy to be pursuing the career of my dreams. Hopefully this will ease some people who are worried about their chances, because if i'm any indication, its that you can acheive your dreams, keep in mind it just may not be on YOUR timetable!!
