We are seeking an ambitious, energetic student who is interested in a Sports Medicine Research Fellowship. Research topics will include biomechanic/kinematic and motion studies of the hip, knee, and shoulder, clinical outcomes studies in operative Sports Medicine patients, and studies pertaining to translational science of Sports Medicine.

Position: Research Fellow

Number of Positions Available: 1

Duration: 0.5 – 1 year (flexible)

Salaried: A monthly stipend is provided

Where: USC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Section of Sports Medicine

When: Beginning Immediately

We are seeking an ambitious, energetic student who is interested in a Sports Medicine Research Fellowship. Research topics will include biomechanic/kinematic and motion studies of the hip, knee, and shoulder, clinical outcomes studies in operative Sports Medicine patients, and studies pertaining to translational science of Sports Medicine.

Duties of the Research Fellow will include:

  • - Coordination of all ongoing research projects
  • - Interviewing surgical patients
  • - Cadaveric surgical dissection
  • - Data analysis
  • - Co-authoring primary research, review articles and book chapters
  • - Designing and submitting research proposals to the IRB
  • - Submitting manuscripts to Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine journals
  • - Observation in the operating room and video capture/creation for surgical technique articles

Specific Prerequisites and Characteristics of the Research Fellow should include:

  • - Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
  • - Proven interest in research
  • - Team oriented mentality
  • - Strong academic record
  • - MUST be extremely organized
  • - MUST be detail oriented
  • - MUST be able to self manage

  • - The fellow should expect authorship on all submitted abstracts for presentation
  • - Fellow will have the ability to be 1st author on all papers that he/she significantly contributes to
  • - The ability to collaborate with Sports Medicine Attendings, Fellows, and Orthopaedic Residents
  • - Opportunities to observe surgical procedures
  • - Opportunities to interact with patients in the office
  • - Ample opportunities to attend Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, and Cadaver Labs
  • - Opportunities to present research at Orthopaedic/Sports Medicine Conferences
  • - Fellowship will undoubtedly bolster and enhance competitiveness for a position in an orthopaedic surgery residency
