Dr. Benjamin Domb at the American Hip Institute (Chicago, IL) invites M4/R students to apply for a stipend-funded 1-2 year clinical research fellowship starting in August of the respective year.
This is a great opportunity for highly motivated candidates pursuing an orthopedic surgery career. This position offers training in clinical research and collaboration with research interns, surgical fellows, and attending mentors in the field of orthopedic surgery. You will work closely with 6-10 other members of the research team on a variety of sports medicine, hip preservation, and hip reconstruction projects. Research fellows should expect a minimum of 10-15 manuscripts publications/abstracts/posters/book chapters by the end of the year.
Candidates: M4 / PGY-1
Prerequisites:
• Planned career in Orthopedic Surgery
• Ability to work well with research team members
• Proven history of interest in research
• Strong academic record
Description of Program:
• Minimum 1 year
• Research Focus:
o Minimally-invasive techniques for treatment of labral tears, FAI, subspine, and ischiofemoral impingement, dysplasia, and microinstability
o Also included: peri-acetabular osteotomy, Birmingham hip resurfacing, and hip arthroplasty (direct anterior, posterior, and Mako Smart-Robotic assisted surgery)
• Participation in research meetings, journal clubs, symposiums, and professional society meetings both nationally and internationally
• Demonstrate proficiency in clinical research including study design, IRB compliance, informed consent, data collection, data analysis, statistics, oral presentation, manuscript preparation, and book chapter/textbook writing
• Multiple podium and poster presentation opportunities
• Manuscript publication minimums in peer-reviewed journals
• Unlimited opportunity to observe orthopedic clinics / operating rooms
• Participation in cadaver labs with surgical fellows on a monthly basis
• Fellow will work under the direction of Benjamin G. Domb, MD
Goals of the program:
• High level of expectation to match into top choice Orthopedic Surgery residency, with help during the match process from Dr. Domb
• Investigate biomechanical and clinical aspects of the disease processes affecting the hip joint
• Fellow should expect a minimum of 10-15 manuscripts publications/abstracts/posters/book chapters by end of year
