This opening is for a one-year, paid position as the hip arthroscopy research fellow for Dr. Shane Nho at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush beginning June 1st 2021. This opportunity affords a unique experience in high volume orthopedic research and offers a full immersion into the field of academic orthopedics.
THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED
As the research ‘point person’ the fellow is responsible for managing multiple (40+) projects involving a wide breadth of clinical, biomechanical, anatomic, and imaging studies. The fellow is also responsible for securing and maintaining IRB, HIPAA and Human Subjects protection policies to ensure ethical research practices and maintenance of patient confidentiality in a multicenter research setting. On-the-job training will be provided as necessary. This is a paid full-time position for the 2018-2019 academic year (beginning June 1st 2018).

Essential Job Functions: Clinical Repository
THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED
The repository is a large and growing outcomes database that is the basis for the group’s many clinical research projects. It is critical for the fellow to actively maintain this prospectively collected hip arthroscopy surgical repository. Each week the fellow must add all surgical patients to the database and record preoperative and intra-operative data, as well as ensure that preoperative outcome forms are completed. Each week, the fellow must go through the database and obtain two year postoperative follow up on patients. This often requires calling patients making strong interpersonal skills an important part of the job. The fellow must also ensure that the IRB for the repository remains active.

Anatomic and Biomechanical Studies
These involve working with cadaveric hip specimens. The research fellow is responsible for ordering specimens and preparing them for anatomic dissection and biomechanics testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor‘s degree in health science related field
- Prior experience with research and statistical analysis (SPSS)
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills
- Familiarity IRB regulatory requirements
- Strong skills in various computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, electronic medical records systems, digital radiographic imaging systems and research databases

Emphasis will be placed on applicants that have had prior experience completing research projects from start to finish. This entails gaining and maintaining IRB approval, data acquisition, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.

This is an exceptional opportunity ideally suited to 3rd and 4th year medical students interested in academic orthopedics. As hip arthroscopy is an emerging field, there are numerous opportunities to publish and present novel research at national and international conferences.
