We are seeking ambitious pre-medical and medical students to apply for a one-year paid research fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This is a full-time research fellowship that will provide highly-motivated applicants with significant opportunities for publications, implementation and design of new research projects, networking, and shadowing. This is a tremendous opportunity for students taking a gap year to strengthen their applications to medical school or residency.
Research will primarily focus on outcome collection for surgical patients with shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, and knee conditions as well as orthopaedic trauma. Research fellows will work under the direction of Dr. Charles Day, Dr. Eric Makhni, Dr. Vasilios Moutzouros, Dr. Stephanie Muh, Dr. Trevor North, Dr. Michael Charters, Dr. Joseph Hoegler, Dr. Stuart Guthrie, and Dr. William Hakeos.
Prior research fellows have been instrumental in the success of our research program and future fellows are expected to be highly productive. Applicants can expect to produce 10+ manuscripts for publication, including first author publications.
Responsibilities:
Managing the Henry Ford Sports Medicine PROMIS Surgical Registry.
Organizing and distributing patient-reported outcome questionnaires to pre- and post-operative patients.
Collecting objective clinical data from surgical patients.
Monitoring IRB approval periods and submitting IRB protocols, amendments, and reports.
Writing and submitting manuscripts to orthopaedic journals (including target journals JBJS, AJSM, CORR, and Arthroscopy).
Assisting with grant applications.
Co-authoring and editing book chapters and review articles.
Assisting with video creation for technique chapters.
Qualifications:
Strong academic record.
Strong motivation for a career in medicine.
Demonstrated interest in research.
Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to self-manage.
