We are seeking ambitious pre-med/med students to apply for a one-year paid research fellowship position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Shoulder and Elbow Division starting spring/summer 2022. This position is a full-time research fellowship that will provide highly motivated applicants with significant opportunities for publications, implementation and design of new research projects, networking, and shadowing. This is a tremendous opportunity for students taking a gap year to strengthen their application to medical school/residency.

Research will primarily focus on shoulder and elbow surgery topics. All research fellows will work under the direction of Dr. Stephanie Muh.

Prior research fellows have been instrumental in the success of our research program and future fellows are expected to be highly productive as well. Applicants can expect to produce numerous manuscripts for publications with multiple opportunities to present research.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing Surgical Registries
  • Organizing and distributing patient-reported outcome questionnaires to pre- and post-operative patients
  • Collecting objective clinical data from surgical patients
  • Submitting IRB protocols and amendments and monitoring all IRB approval periods
  • Writing and submitting manuscripts to Orthopaedic journals (including target journals of JBJS, JSES, AJSM, CORR, and Arthroscopy)
  • Assisting with grant applications
  • Helping co-author and edit orthopaedic surgery book chapters and review articles
  • Assisting in video creation for technique chapters
  • Attending an Exactech Clinical Coordinator Conference

Qualifications:

  • Strong motivation for a career in medicine
  • Proven interest in research
  • Must be extremely organized
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be able to self-manage
  • Strong academic record
