Dr. Xinning Li is seeking an ambitious 3rd or 4th year (un-matched) medical student who is pursing orthopaedic surgery as a career and interested in a year-long clinical research fellowship at the Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center.
The research assistant will work closely with Dr. Li and other members of the BU Orthopaedics department and will be responsible for the following duties below. Furthermore, he/she will have access to the BU Orthopaedic department academic resources and is expected to attend all morning conferences/resident lectures/Visiting Professor Day/Grand Rounds/dept. educational event. Dr. Li will also provide mentorship and assistance for the Orthopaedic residency match process. Of note, the last five RA in this position all have successfully matched into Orthopaedic surgery residency. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the RA will be responsible for study recruitment, consent, data collection, entry and verification for the ARC (Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff), STABLE (Shoulder instability Trial comparing Arthroscopic stabilization Benefits compared with Latarjet procedure Evaluation) and MVP (Comparing Meniscal Repair Biologic Augmentation: Marrow Venting Procedure Versus PRP) randomized clinical trials. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the study recruitment, consent, data collection, entry and verification for the CuffGEN (Genetic Epidemiology of Rotator Cuff Tears) NIH R01 study, ASES Multicenter Shoulder Periprosthetic Joint Infection Database and setting up the multicenter prospective shoulder arthroplasty for a shoulder arthroplasty company. Duties include but are not limited to, assisting with patient recruitment, scheduling study visits, administering questionnaires, creating and filing case report forms, entering and updating data, maintaining databases, running reports, and performing other administrative tasks in support of the clinical studies. The RA will also perform literature searches, assist in completing IRB procedures and assist with manuscript submission processes. Furthermore, many other research opportunities will be available for the RA that will result in peer reviewed publications, book chapters, and presentations. Additionally the RA will be in charge or admin of the SCORE national research network. This particular network is made of many medical students and orthopaedic residents from around the country that collaborates in research and publishing scientific papers.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
1. Conducts the screening and enrollment of study participants, including explaining research procedures, and obtaining informed consent of subjects.
2. Responsible for the administrative aspects of the research study, including managing records and handling communication needs.
3. Schedules appointments of study participants; conducts reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts.
4. Reviews the data collection forms for each enrollee for completion and quality.
5. Perform administrative duties associated with the study’s Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DSMB. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.
6. Assists in completing Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals and correspondence, including amendments and renewals as necessary.
7. Conducts literature searches. Assists study team with manuscript, presentation preparation and research.
8. Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital’s goals and mission.
9. Running the SCORE national research network.
10. Clinical responsibilities include seeing patients in clinic and help room/manage patients.
Salary:
$35000 to 40000 per year with no benefits.
Start date:
May or June of 2024 for one or two years.
