We are seeking ambitious medical students to apply for a one- to two-year paid research fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This is a full-time research fellowship that will provide highly-motivated applicants with significant opportunity for publication, implementation and design of new research projects, networking, and shadowing. This is a tremendous opportunity for students taking a gap year to strengthen their applications to medical school or residency.
Research will primarily focus on outcome collection for surgical patients in the following divisions: hand, joints, shoulder and elbow, sports medicine, and trauma. Research assistants will work under the direction of a Henry Ford Health senior staff physician in their respective division.
Responsibilities:
- -Lead a research team of medical students
- -Oversee all ongoing projects (collecting data, getting updates, assigning project leads)
- -Schedule research meetings with the Principle Investigator (PI) and research team members
- -Lead research group meetings and edit the ledger with updates from the team
- -Manage clinic schedules and shadowing for medical students
- -Work closely alongside the PI and handle academic/research administrative responsibilities
- -Organize and distribute surveys and questionnaires for pre- and post-operative patients
- -Monitor IRB approval periods and submit IRB protocols, amendments, and reports
- -Write and submit manuscripts to orthopaedic journals (including target journals JBJS, JHS, CORR, and Arthroscopy)
- -Manage abstract submission and conference registration deadlines
Qualifications:
- -Strong academic record
- -Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery and demonstrated interest in research
- -Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to self-manage
