University of Kentucky Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Funded Research Fellowship (2025-2026)

Dr. Stone specializes in conditions of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, with an additional practice focus in cartilage restoration and ortho-biologics. He serves as the director for the Center for Cartilage Repair and Restoration at the University of Kentucky. He is also the team physician for the University of Kentucky, the Lexington Sporting Club, and Eastern Kentucky University.

Duration: 1 year (approximately June 2025 – June 2026)
Salary: A bi-monthly stipend is provided

Lexington is a beautiful city situated in the rolling foothills of the bluegrass region of Kentucky. There are numerous outdoor activities ranging from climbing to caving and kayaking, all within an hour’s drive. Lexington also has a rich cultural environment with a strong arts and music scene. Additionally, Lexington benefits from a very reasonable cost of living and temperate weather.

Job Duties:
1.       Actively participate in drafting, editing, and submitting research projects including abstracts, manuscripts, multimedia projects, and book chapters.
2.       Hands-on experience collecting patient outcome and biospecimen data in both the clinical and operating room settings.
3.       Submission and management of IRB protocols.
4.       Assist the research coordinators and research faculty on clinical projects in the department.
5.       Assist with coordinating and setting up cadaver labs for residents and fellows.

Qualifications:
1.       A background in musculoskeletal disorders with a desire to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery.
2.       Previous experience in academic research.
3.       Driven, independent, and efficient worker.
4.       Well organized with good communication skills.
5.       Strong scholastic performance.
6.       Statistical experience is preferred, but not required.

5.       Ability to observe cases with Dr. Stone in the operating room.
6.       Access to University of Kentucky Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, lectures, cadaveric labs, and workshops.
