got the ugly step-child from Florida today. Looks more and more like white Christmas for me every day.

Carolinas vs MCW. I can't go to both. Can someone make an argument for either program to help me out? I think I rather live in NC if that's what it comes down to.

Unrelated: I'll concede the UW works its residents harder than most other programs that I am aware of and another downside would be the number of fellows present. No program's perfect.

Canes...I'm assuming you're in Miami. How's that program? I'll be down there next month.

Dogbone and GoCanes, thanks for the replies. I talked to two residents at my home program who were both U. Washington students and both did M4 away rotations at Utah. They both independently suggested going to Utah...so I will. Thanks for the input and best of luck to all.

Saw the note by DogBone. As an Ortho R1 at another highly regarded program, I would say Utah anyday over UW. My bud is a resident at UW and they are killing him. I didn't even apply there because of the brutal reputation they have. If you want a brutal lifestyle, apply. It is a great program, but you have to be game for getting your ass whupped regularly. They dont call UW the "Death Star" for nothing

. Utah on the other hand probably gets the same fellowship placement, only interviews 20 a year for 4 spots!!! and is a great resident friendly program. Salt Lake may suck and you may be stuck drinking 3% EtOH beer, but at least you have time to drink the beer. :pimp:

I sent Barb an e-mail letting her know I had a conflict with the 17th and would like the 18th (10 min ago) - so presumably if you do the opposite Colles, then she'll take care of the rest - hopefully it'll work out for us both.

Nate-dog, the UW vs Utah (Seattle vs Salt Lake City)? Utah may be good, but it's not the UW and other than skiiing, what are you going to do in Salt Lake for 5 years? At my school (not the UW), Washington is probably the program that is held in the highest regard by every resident and attending I've spoken with (including my chairman). I just wish they han't stiffed me.
