UVA was my first away, and I can't tell you how much I loved it, charlottesville is beautiful and the attendings and house staff are all good people. When I was there I rotated on foot and ankle with Dr. Caceydo. He is a very nice guy. Did not pimp alot but when he asked you a question he expected you know it, was very willing to teach. If you work with him know your lower extremity anatomy. He will let you operate, they let me cut off a tibia during an amputation. Next I was upper extremity with Dr. Chabbra, the PD. He is truely an amazing guy, probable the best educator I have come across to this stage, and a hell of a surgeon. He does pimp, so you should read like hell. The pimping is all in good nature, not malignant, but you want to know your stuff. Upper extremity anatomy is a must, so you have to be on it. There are a lot of other attendings whom you could work with. Dr. Carson is the other PD is he is also a great guy. Very down to earth, if you work hard he will look out for you. I have nothing to say negative about anyone there as I truely had a great experience. Finally the residence are amongts the best and most diverse I have ever seen. It was refreshing. If you are a regular fella and just work hard they will look out. As far as housing I stayed with a friend whom is in the program, you best bet would proable be to contact Minde Franke and ask her. Good luck, UVA is a top notch place.
