On average very good faculty. They get along very well with each other and are well trained in their subspecialties.
Didactics / Teaching
Didactics were average at best. They are entirely resident run so if the residents slack off then there is no structure and no teaching. Tired residents do not give good lectures
Operating Experience
You operate your face off here on trauma. There is 1 spine attending, essentially 0 foot and ankle, and Sports Fellows do most of the sports surgery.
Clinic Experience
Work as fast as possible 8-6, what else is there to say about clinic
Research Opportunities
This is not a research place, we are very open about that
Residents
Great residents, my best friends. Every resident is married so if you are single this is not a place you will fit in but the Ortho Wives Club is very active and they are great friends.
Lifestyle
Lexington is cheap. I have not seen much of the city but my wife tells me she and her friends like it a lot.
Location / Housing
At this program we spend a lot of time washing out infections because Ky is #1 in IVDA. Most call nights are spent doing pus wash outs. Other than that there is a lot to learn here.
Limitations
Time off work, research, spine, F&A, lots of time washing out IVD infections
Overall Rotation Experience / Conclusion
Upon graduation, I feel prepared for fellowship and I know myself and my classmates were accepted into the fellowships we wanted. This is an extremely busy training program so technical skills are a plus however life outside the hospital is not a priority for those who train here.
