I'm from the NE Ohio area and am a little curious about what some of the strengths and weaknesse were about the programs, how competitive they are, if you would suggest doing an away there, etc...?

I think that both programs are solid. I was a medical student at NEOUCOM (the affiliated medical school), and they have a robust faculty array. They have an excellent pediatrics experience at a stand alone children's hospital. The two programs each support three residents per year which is impressive. Also, there is a wealth of ortho onc experience which many programs lack because of Drs. Leeson and Weiner. There are two separate programs, but they share some of the same attendings - Summa Health System and Akron General Medical Center. Definitely check these places out if you are willing to live in Akron. It's sort of dismal in the winter, but there is surprisingly plenty to do. There is a great outdoor activity spectrum in the Northeast Ohio area, and if you need metropolitan, then you can get to Cleveland via Freeway in an hour. I'm from the area, so if you have any specific questions, I'm game.

Rotated there when I was a student. Best program out there by far. These guys operate like machines, get great education and the attendings are great. And all of this you are done by 5pm. I highly and I mean highly recommend rotating there. It is just really competitive.
