our school uses a lottery system to divide up m4 scheduling. i got a craptastic spot. as a result, all the ortho available rotations at my school filled up for the earliest months before i got a chance to register. (they don't offer too many.) so now i'm in a situation where in order to do aways, i need to do one of them before my home sub-I (i'm doing 2 aways. i'm a mediocre applicant.)

not thrilled about this situation, obviously.
recommendations for how to handle it with the away program when i get there? (they approved my dates already, so i know i'm doing this first.) i figure be upfront about it being my first full ortho rotation, working hard and learning as much as possible.
anyone else do an away before doing a home rotation? is it as big of a no-no as i'm thinking it is? i'm kind of stuck, so hoping to make the best out of the situation.
