I would encourage anyone looking for a superb program in the southeast to be sure Chattanooga is on their list. We have an excellent hospital with great staff (this makes a difference at the end of the day), a new wet lab with research assistants, a great clinic setup, an excellent pay scale with benefits, q 6 call thanks to an additional resident per year (very nice), and most importantly excellent operative experience with fellowship trained attendings in almost every field. This program has gotten more competitive, however, since the additional resident was added (matched 3 out of top 5-all with excellent grades/boards). This isn't to deter people, only to let you know that the chairman is a numbers guy and that this has become one of the more desirable programs in the southeast with all the new additions. I'm a resident here so I'm a little biased, but if you want more info you can email me at [email protected] and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Good luck to all this year.

There are some posted minimums on the chattanooga website, I'm not sure what they are. Of course, the numbers of the residents here are probably a little higher than the minimums, but that's whats required for an interview. Chattanooga the city is pretty nice. There's enough to do at night and a ton of stuff to do outdoors (the lake is 10 min from my house). Again, I think we have some links on the website. I came from Memphis which is a little better in terms of nightlife, as would any big city be, but with 500,000 in the metro area there's enough to get out and do. We are also about an hour and a half from Nashville, Atlanta, Knoxville, and some other cities. Cost of living here is low, and best of all the Vols are close.

Anyone have any idea how much of a preference is given for class rank at chatt? I have the Step 1 score and was thinking about doing an away here, but I don't want to do it if I won't get an interview because I'm not top 25% in my class.

i can second the op on this one. i rotated at chattanooga as a 4th year student and ended up ranking them #2 on my list behind only my home program. it really is a nice program and a very nice hospital. chattanooga is a great city with a great downtown restr/bar district with a minor league ballpark and the aquarium and imax theatre. the residents are also really great to work with and the attendings are fun too.
there is a trauma fellow there but he generally follows one of the traumatologists and there are other trauma attendings and lots of trauma to go around so i don't think the residents feel like they are getting cases swiped from them.

Class rank does play a small role in the final numbers in ranking of applicants, but is is a small part.

We have never had a DO rotator here, but I don't think we have had any applicants that I am aware of. I don't think it would be a detriment.
