I'm an MS3 at a Northeast school looking to hopefully match in the Midwest, particularly Chicago. Looking to do one or two aways in the Windy City and wondering if anyone had any advice on the programs there...Northwestern, Rush, Loyola, UChicago, UIC. Any of these particularly good for rotators looking to work hard and get my foot a little bit in the door? Thanks for any info!

Word on the street is that the Chicago programs are all big on rotators. In fact, at some it's nearly impossible to get an interview if you don't. NW in particular around 50 people and 48 of them are rotators. I think Rush is similar but probably not quite as extreme. Some people from my med school (west coast) got interviews at Loyola and U Chicago without rotating. However, I think NW and Rush have a pretty long process to get an away (sending in boards and letters of rec). Anyways, good luck.

something worth knowing about university of chicago is that they don't automatically interview rotators, unlike many other places. I met several people on the interview trail who seemed like nice, cool people but complained that they worked there butt off at UofC and still didn't get an interview.

Other places in the Chi will at least offer you an interview if you rotate, usually, though i have a friend who rotated at NU and didn't get an interview. They told him that they almost exclusively interviewed rotators this year and that they had too many rotators to interview all of them.

Just some food for thought, by no means is this gospel, just thought it would be good to know when selecting aways.

FYI--historically, Rush has interviewed all rotators. They try to do some pre-screening so that they don't offer rotations to folks without a realistic shot at matching. However, this year there were significantly more rotators than in years past. Everyone was interviewed this year, but there is some talk that they may no longer grant all rotators an interview. Just so you know.
